America Revealed - Made In America

Christine Peterson - Thursday, May 03, 2012

America Revealed, a series playing on PBS has an episode "Made in America" that I found very encouraging for manufacturing and hit home on the importance of innovation to the US economy. American manufacturing is still #1. It accounts for 12% of the US economy, employs about 11 million people and spurs a lot of spin off jobs that are important to the economy. Our factories don’t look like they used to - they require fewer people and make different products, but we manufacture more now than in any time in our history. Some of our most traditional industries are riding a remarkable wave of innovation and new ones are spring up all the time. WATCH  READ MORE...

Building an Intentional City

Michele Petersen - Thursday, March 22, 2012

I came across this blog recently from a Twitter post.  It grabbed my attention in that I see Shasta County has taken hold of this idea and is currently running with this concept.  Being intentional is defined as pertaining to an appearance.  Doing something with a representation in mind.  Shasta County is our jewel, our representation, our passion.   It's not just another city on a map, it's our home.  Doing business in Shasta County enhances the life we already lead.  The creativity of the Shasta County business sector is always surprising me.  The ideas in innovative products, alternative ways to do business, and the desire to bring up the next generation and keep them in Shasta County is where our community's pride thrives.  We are not just making a come back we're breaking the mold!  READ MORE...

Building an Innovative Community

Michele Petersen - Thursday, February 23, 2012

Innovation is the future of economic growth.  In a report put out by the White House entitled "A Strategy For American Innovation","America’s future economic growth and international competitiveness depend on our capacity to innovate.  We can create the jobs and industries of the future by doing what America does best – investing in the creativity and imagination of our people. To win the future, we must out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world. We also must take responsibility for our deficit, by investing in what makes America stronger, cutting what doesn’t, and reforming how our government operates so it focuses on promoting our economic growth and preparing for the challenges of a new century."  For the full report Click Here  READ MORE...

Highest Growth in Clean Tech Sector is in California

Michele Petersen - Monday, November 21, 2011

I came across this blog today about the Clean Tech Industry.  California currently has the biggest growth in the Green Jobs sector and it still continues to grow.  Shasta County continues to promote these projects and welcomes this industry to our community.  Pattern Energy in 2010 completed their Hatchet Ridge Wind Farm making it the only wind project commissioned for the state in 2010.  What are your thoughts on the Clean Tech Industry?
