According to Code.org, “the hour of code is coming.” And now it is coming to Shasta County. Realizing technology based jobs are on the rise, Code IT’s President, Faye Hall, saw a need in Shasta County to teach coding to adults. There is no reason anyone should have to leave the area to learn this very usable and important skill. And she realized, too, it would create opportunities for more and more people seeking good paying jobs.

For Love of Coding – Faye Hall’s own background is quite impressive. She hails originally from Shanghai, China. She studied medicine at Beijing University but knew in her heart of hearts it wasn’t a fit for her. She came to the U.S. in the early 90’s to attend the University of Kansas. There she studied computer science and it WAS a fit. Excellent doors began to open for her prior to graduating with a computer science degree.

From Code IT Redding’s website, “What started out as helping our kids have fun learning and being creative has now begun to spread and develop beyond our dreams. Dozens of kids have now gone through and loved Build IT Academy, so we’ve upgraded and launched an adult version, Code IT Boot Camp. Code it helps enhance, equip, and train adults in the technical field to prepare them and launch into the professional arena.” And, according to the late Steve Jobs, “Everybody in this country should learn to code a computer as it teaches you how to think.”

Courses at Code IT Redding: Code IT will do a soft launch in November holding a 3 day class on Drupal and a 5 day class in December. Their official launch is anticipated to be January of 2014 at which time they will teach iPhone development for Apps. At that time, each intensive core class will be initially offered at the promotional cost of $1,200 a month which includes all course materials. Courses offered include: Xcode, Object C, Python, PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Drupal, Design Patterns, C++, Design Patterns and more.

Opportunities to Learn & Teach Code: There is not only opportunity for people to learn code but also a growing opportunity for those who KNOW code to teach it. If you are interested in either, you are encouraged to contact Code IT Redding. Be sure to share this information with anyone who may be interested learning code or in teaching code. As more people learn about this wonderful opportunity here in Shasta County, we suspect the momentum will build quickly as it has already begun without much exposure to date.
