October 9th, 2017 – Redding, California – Cloud Wise Academy classes are returning this fall. After a summer-long hiatus, the local web design school Cloud Wise Academy will be launching a six-week long course on WordPress for beginners, designed to help people build websites without doing any coding.
Since Cloud Wise Academy first started holding classes in the Summer of 2016, its accelerated just-the-facts approach to learning has appealed to students and to institutions trying to teach vocational skills. Cloud Wise Academy courses are now being taught in 8 California colleges, including Shasta College and the College of the Siskiyous.
The class will begin on November 6th, and run Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 – 9 PM, to be held at 4300 Caterpillar Road in Redding.
As with many Cloud Wise Academy courses before it, this class will focus on WordPress skills. “WordPress is the most popular Content Management System in the world,” says instructor Jake Hinton. “If you understand it, that doesn’t just mean you can make a website. It also means you have a skill that is really valuable to employers.”
Because the class is only six weeks long and is held in the evenings, it is primarily designed to appeal to people with jobs and families who want to improve their career opportunities. By cutting out theory, and focusing only on the knowledge that directly relates to being hired, the class is able to quickly allow people to find a new career.
“There’s a gap between the skills that employers need and the skills that employees in this area have,” explains Cloud Wise CEO Joe Mckenna. “The goal of Cloud Wise Academy is to help close that gap – to the betterment of the entire community.”
“We’ve seen tons of students find new careers because of these classes,” Mckenna added.
Stories of Cloud Wise Academy students
Chris Webber had to quit his job as a gunsmith after the worsening of a back injury he sustained in the Navy. “Things were looking very bleak,” he recalls. He took a Cloud Wise Academy class to try to change his career and ended up launching his own local business building websites for companies. “Landing on something that I feel I’m good at and that I enjoy was one in a million to me,” Chris remarks. “Right now, the future looks awesome. I’m very excited about the future.”
Rodrick Dusio Macdermott was a pizza delivery driver at Papa Johns and a mechanic with the National Guard. He’d never tried coding before, but while taking his first Cloud Wise Academy class, he fell in love with it and started learning advanced coding on his own. He is now a professional developer with Cloud Potential and has been an instructor at multiple Cloud Wise Academy classes.
Just as with some of the coding boot camps that are springing up across the country, the premise that underpins Cloud Wise Academy is the idea that high-demand technology skills can be learned quickly.
“You don’t need a CS degree to get a job in web development,” says Joe Mckenna.
This WordPress class will begin on November 6th and take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 PM. It will be held in the Cloud Wise Academy space in the Shasta Venture Hub, located at 4300 Caterpillar Road, in Redding. A laptop able to connect to the Internet is required. The cost is $275 per person, but scholarships are available through the Shasta Regional Community Foundation.

Cloud Wise Academy was founded in 2016 to teach “learn to earn” skills that workers and company owners can use to succeed in today’s e-commerce economy. Classes are purposefully held in the evenings so people with jobs and families can attend conveniently. Courses are taught by experts in the field, who use those skills in their own professions.
