Northern California is known for many things: its famous beaches, the Bay Area, ski and snowboard recreational opportunities, beautiful national parks, a gorgeous coastline, and fantastic wines for every taste. If you are considering a move to Shasta County, or if you’re a new resident around our parts, you may be wondering about the different perks and quality of life living in Northern California brings.
There is so much to do in Northern California, and tourism is such a large part of our life. In fact, the total direct travel spending in California was $122.5 billion back in 2015! To make it easier to adjust to your new home, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite things about our favorite place in the world.
Hundreds of miles of coastline
With hundreds of miles of beautiful beaches accessorized with jutted rocks and beautiful sand, what more could you want? Some little-known beaches we love and recommend are:
- Black Sand Beach, Conzelman Rd. Sausalito
- Marshall’s Beach, San Fransisco Presidio. This is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge!
- Glass Beach, Fort Bragg. Littered with sea glass of all shapes and sizes.
Yosemite National Park
People travel from all around the world to see the natural wonders of Yosemite — think beautiful cliffs, raging waterfalls, and valleys lined with trees. The park itself is almost the size of the state of Rhode Island and encompasses 1,100 square miles of pure natural beauty. When you go, make sure to check out the tallest waterfall in North America, Yosemite Falls.
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Think you have to go all the way to Iceland to see some cool volcanoes? Think again! This park, in the northeastern corner of the state, has all you could want from a geothermal area; boiling springs, sulfur vents (you may want to plug your nose), and dormant volcanoes. What’s there not to love?
With all of these fun activities easily available in Northern California, it is safe to say the quality of life here is quite high.
